Description
Black Antique Slavic Folk Scarf/ Headpiece from Horn? Tisovn?k in Detva Region, Slovakia. It is a special and rare piece, if you are not familiar with Slavic folk costumes, every girl used to cocreate her own, learning sewing and crafts like knitting, embroidering, lace making from a very young age. Every married woman had to cover her hair and this scarf could have been made in an occasion of grape harvest which was often accompanied by festivities in Slovakia. It is a piece with a rich history and it is ready to start to write a new modern story. It is made of a beautiful rich black velvet, most likely cotton or silk with blue embroidery. Most likely this was an original piece with its own unique pattern and there were no two exactly the same, as people wanted to be different, their clothes were mirroring their personalities and showcasing their skills. Nobody wanted to wear the same patterns as their neighbor, but there were similarities within regions, similar motifs, colors would be typically found in the same region, but never two pieces exactly the same. 🙂
